CHILDRENβS BOOK ILLUSTRATION PROCESS
You provide us the manuscript
We both discuss the manuscript and scenes
We visualize and illustrate
Is it that so simple?
NO
Here is how all that gets done:Β Behind the scenes
Requirements:
- Manuscript: This must be the final edited version. Please ensure the manuscript is professionally edited.
- Scene Descriptions: These are required if you have a specific vision and particular requirements for the artwork. Otherwise, we will sketch based on our own interpretation.
- Reference Images: If you have a real-life character you want us to sketch, please provide pictures for accurate depiction. Front and side poses will be helpful.
Step 1. Rough Line Art Sketch
We hand-draw the sketches based on the scene descriptions and the script you shared with us. We then scan these rough line art images and submit them for your review and feedback.
This is your opportunity to review and provide feedback. You can request scene changes or alterations to the scene objects.
Quality is our top priority. That’s why we offer unlimited revisions until both you and the client are satisfied with the work.
Step 2. Sketch Coloring
Once you have approved the line art, we proceed to add intricate details and color to the scenes. During this stage, we welcome your feedback specifically related to colors.
Please note that any scene-related corrections provided after the coloring is completed may be challenging to accommodate and could result in additional costs.
You have the opportunity to request unlimited scene corrections during the line art stage, so please take advantage of this phase to ensure the final artwork meets your expectations.
Below are few examples of line arts and their color versions:
We’re currently accepting new projects. Drop us a line! We’d love to hear from you.

Should I use AI or hand-drawn illustrations for my children's book?
In 2026, many authors face this question. Here's the honest answer β covering copyright, consistency, Amazon policy, and ethics.
Copyright clarity
AI image ownership is legally uncertain. Hand-drawn art transfers full copyright to you on payment.
Character consistency
AI cannot reliably replicate the same character across 32 different scenes. Hand-drawn uses a per-character style guide.
Amazon KDP policy
KDP requires AI content disclosure and reviews submissions. Our 60+ books have all passed KDP review.
Authentic authorship
Readers and reviewers notice AI art. Hand-drawn signals genuine craft β which matters for reviews and school visits.
Illustration Packages
Illustration starts from $25 per spread. A full 32-page picture book with cover typically costs $800β$2,000. Free quote within 24 hours.
Why does one book cost $800 and another $2,000?
Six factors determine your final quote β understanding them sets realistic expectations before you reach out.
π₯ Number of characters
More distinct characters = more design work per spread. A single character costs less than a classroom of 12.
πΏ Background complexity
Simple flat backgrounds cost less than detailed forest scenes or busy cityscapes β often the biggest cost variable.
π¨ Art style
Simple flat vector-style art takes less time than detailed painterly or textured illustration styles.
π Page count
Standard picture book: 32 pages. Board books: 14. Activity books: 40β80. More pages = more illustration time.
π Series style guide
If you're publishing a series, a style guide is created so characters look identical from Book 1 to Book 5.
π Publishing support
Adding KDP upload, listing setup, and keyword research adds a flat fee to the project total.
Free personalised quote within 24 hours β no commitment needed.
