Hi, I’m Gaurav Bhatnagar.

I’m a children’s book illustrator and cover illustrator who has illustrated more than 75 published books for self-publishing authors around the world — from character design to book cover illustration to Amazon KDP formatting. Many illustrators can show beautiful artwork. I wanted to show something more meaningful — real books that families can actually buy. Every cover on this page represents an author who trusted me with their story, and I’m grateful to have been part of their publishing journey.

Two of my published books are literally about Black hair: Heavenly Hair Ever After and Hattie the Hair Chemist (both on this page, both verifiable on Amazon). If a specific style matters to your story, send a photo and it will be drawn faithfully.

Can my characters be based on my real children, grandchildren, or family?

Absolutely — this is some of my favorite work. Send photos, and I’ll design characters with their features, hair, and personality, then refine the reference sheet with you until it truly looks like them. Several authors on this page published books starring their own children and grandchildren.

I had a bad experience with an illustrator who got representation wrong. How is your process different?

The difference is that nothing is finalized without your yes. Character reference sheet — approved by you. Every pencil sketch — approved by you. Color — seen and approved by you. Most bad experiences happen when an author only sees finished artwork; my milestone approvals make that impossible. And every claim I make is checkable against 75+ published books.

Do you work with first-time authors?

Most of my clients are first-time authors — and many of the 75+ books on this page were debuts.
